Spring Fever

 So I totally know we would be better friends if I actually posted more regularly.  But I had a fun week off learning new things and I actually sewed!  I lost my sewing scissors a couple of weeks ago which is a big deal if you are left handed.  Not just any scissors will work.  I finally gave in and used my rotary cutter to cut out a pattern. But only because it is the cutest dress ever.   LOVE IT. When I made it last week we had spring like weather.  Now, not so much.  Well, ok so we don't have the warm sunny spring like weather.  We have the blustery,rainy spring like weather.  Either way we definitely have spring fever around here.  How are you coping with your spring fever?

Dresses for Finley

{Darin will be our featured artist at Greenies this month for First Friday.  Come and check it out tonight from 5-8.  His display amazing!}

A few weeks back while I had my booth set up at the Richland Farmer's Market.  I got to chatting with Erin who also recently moved here from Colorado.  She had the best bag!  Anyways she asked me to make a few dresses for her cutest girl Finley.
   I couldn't resist taking pictures in the gorgeous sunlight this morning.  Pretty dresses hanging in the sunlight.  Little things like that make me happy!
Erin wanted fun and colorful and little bit funky.  I think we are a perfect fit!  I used some of my favorite fabrics of the moment.  Momo Wonderland is on the left and Heather Bailey Pop Garden on the right.
 I used Hunky Dory for this one.  Ok.  So maybe the sunshine wasn't a great idea.  You can't fully appreciate the colors.  This one is SO pretty.  Each pattern I used is one that is one that Finley can wear for at least a year.  As she grows they will stretch, turn in to tunics and be cute forever!
This was a new style for me. And a new favorite.  They have a flat front and then the back of the chest piece is shirred so it will stretch as she grows.  The left dress is Kleo in black {an all time favorite} and the oh so cute deer fabric from Michael Miller on the right.

Do you think she'll mind if I recreate them all for Ivy?!

Heaven Help Me She's 3!

I've been away celebrating this sweet girls third birthday.  We've been playing in Portland for a week and it was a fabulous time! We had a little party with my family last Sunday with her fave-cupcakes.  When she woke up on Monday {her actual birthday} and I started singing Happy Birthday to her she promptly told me to be quiet.  But its your birthday I say.  And she corrects me- BUT MOM!  I already had my cupcake!

 Is she the only kid that only eats the frosting?!
I made her dress using the Warhol Dress pattern from the ever talented Dana of Made fame.  Super easy and quick.  Just the way I like it at 10 pm the night before we are heading out of town.  What, you've never decided that was a perfect time to put everything else on hold, because your daughter needed a new dress?!  You should try this pattern next time that happens.  :)

I'm planning on posting some more details this week. Don't hold me to it though.  I've been playing Dr. to my crabby sweet baby girl who got her first black eye yesterday.  But really have you ever seen a cuter patient?

{she turfed it at the pool and has a shiner and a big scrape.  Hence the princesses on her cheek.}

But I stocked up on popsicles and princess bandaids so hopefully we can make it.  Popsicles and bandaids make everything better!  Talk to you soon!

Just a couple of things

I've decided I should try and make a work apron so I will wear it, and not worry about getting it dirty!  I made this as a Halloween apron, but not too Halloweenish so I can wear it year round.  My favorite part is the pocket.

I try hard NOT to put ric rac on stuff. I can't stay away from it. Oh well.

I also added ruffles to this v-neck shirt.  I love when Old Navy has their 50% off the lowest marked price.  So I got this shirt and the shirt I used for the ruffles for $3 each! I just cut the bottom third off of one shirt and cut it into strips for ruffles.   I used the rest of that shirt for...

this dress.  I made a skirt and attached it to the top part of my cut shirt.  That kleo fabric is my favorite.  I love the colors.  I wore this dress to our friend Shannon and Skye's wedding Labor Day weekend.  It was the craziest, funnest wedding I have ever been to.  All I know is that LDS people don't get the whole "party" part of wedding receptions!  I should post about their wedding on our family blog before I forget.  Anyway.  I should get back to work.  I'm doing a craft fair next weekend and I'm not even close to being ready.

Upcycling- Onesie and tanktop equal New Dress!

I got this for Ivy in the spring.  I think about 3 weeks later she grew an inch and it was too short.    So its been hanging around waiting to be used.

My sister in law just had her last baby and gave me back my maternity clothes, plus some of hers.  This tank top was in there.  When I saw it I knew it was time to use that onesie.

So I cut the bottom of the tank top off and cut the onesie about where I thought an empire waist would be on Ivy.  ( I added an inch for good measure and seam allowances.)  The tank top was a maternity shirt so the front was longer then the back.  I made sure that the bottom was even and the cut the extra off so the front and back were straight across at the top.

Then I gathered the top by setting my sewing machine to a long stitch.  Luckily my machine just kind of gathers the material on its own when I do this.  Make sure that the width is as wide as the bottom of the onesie.

With right sides together pin your skirt and onesie together.  Use a lot of pins because gathers tend to move a lot.  Make sure to match up your side seams.

Next machine stitch it together and finish your edges with either a serger or a zig zag stitch.

Turn right side out press and you are done!

I used that extra strip of fabric to make a rosette and stitched it to the shirt.  They are so cute I couldn't help it.

This was SO easy.  I think it took 1/2 hour to do (not including the rosette.)

THEN... I took the bottom of the onesie and made a diaper cover.

Finish the top edge of the bottom half and fold down about an inch(or more or less depending on the width of your elastic).  Stitch all the way around, but leave a 1-2 inch opening to insert your elastic.

Cut your elastic the length of the waist measurement.  Feed through the casing and stitch the ends of the elastic together (overlapping about an inch) with a zig zag stitch.

Sew up the opening and topstitch around the very top of the casing.   Now you have a diaper cover to match.!
