Level Up Photography Workshops {Giveaway CLOSED!}

WINNER!!  Kristen You are the lucky lady today!  I'll be emailing you shortly to get you all set!!

Hey guys I have a giveaway for you today!  Ooooh Lucky!
Did you get that new DSLR camera you wanted for Christmas?  Its March now, do you know how to use all those fancy settings to get the most out of your camera?  Well Darin wants to give away another spot in his upcoming Intro to Photography class on March 31st!  The Intro to Photography class is just right for you and your new DSLR.  You will learn how to use your camera and what the heck things like aperture mean, and why you need to know that so you can take awesome photos!

Remember when I was saying I didn't want to link to some of my older posts because I was kind of embarrassed about the pictures I used to take.  Well I have been the guinea pig for his lessons and look how much better I've gotten!  I only have to take a couple pictures to get it right instead of 20.

Level Up! Photography workshops are a great way to expand your photography skills whether you are a momtog or a professional.  To be entered to win a spot in the upcoming Intro to Photography class, visit the Level Up! facebook page and like it if you haven't already.  Then come back here and tell me how much you are looking forward to learning how to use your camera.

Good Luck!  A winner will be chosen Tuesday March 27th.

Don't want to stress about not getting a spot in the class if you don't win?  Go ahead and register for the class!

The Dreamy Giraffe {a giveaway}

Let me introduce you to Kathy from The Dreamy Giraffe.  She is so fun and funny and fabulous!  I ran across her shop at the beginning of the year and let me tell you I was hooked on the spot.  The only trouble is I had the hardest time deciding what I wanted to get!  I decided to wait it out until Kathy introduced larger prints and I got this one for Ivy's room.

Source: etsy.com via Jennifer on Pinterest

Doesn't that just perfectly remind you of my sweet girl?  Although I had a hard time choosing between that and this one...

The fun thing about Kathy's prints is you can totally get whatever hair color or eye color!  Hmmm maybe I should still get that one.

Well The Dreamy Giraffe also has the most perfect prints for Mama too.

Isn't that so true? Also available in Ice cream and cookies!

And for your craft room?  Perfection.

The Dreamy Giraffe has so many fun prints I think you will have as hard of time deciding what to get as I did!

And one of you lucky ducks gets to pick an 8x10 print of your choice!

Just leave a comment here telling me what your favorite print is after you visit the Dreamy Giraffe Shop.
{winner will be picked Tuesday May 10th}

Of course Kathy didn't want anyone to feel left out so she is offering you all a special discount! Just use
code: SUNSHINE at checkout and receive  20 % off your order.  Sweet!.

Happy Mother's Day from me and the Dreamy Giraffe!

Seriously Giveaway Day {Root Cases}CLOSED!

One of my favorite parts about owning an eco friendly store is finding all the cool products out there that would be a good fit for Greenies. I stumbled upon Root Cases and knew that it would be a fun addition to Greenies.  What makes a cool find even better is when you find out that the company is run by even cooler people that just happen to go to the same college you did.  And they do things like plant a tree for every case sold, and that they are a part of 1% For The Planet.

Root Cases is giving one of you lucky folks a bamboo IPHONE 4 case {thats a $59 phone case folks}.
Want to win?!
Leave a comment telling me your favorite way to help the planet.

{Coming Soon}

Hello!  Ok I know consistency is NOT my strong point.  Ivy and I were able to go Portland for a long weekend and of course I didn't take a single picture.  It was really fun though and can you believe I even saw the sun shining while I was there?!  I'm still catching up on things around the house, but I wanted to stop in and give you a little teaser.  I've been rounding up some of my favorite things to give away and I'm getting pretty excited, and a little jealous since I really want to just win them all myself.  Because well, they are my favorite things!  Oooh aren't you excited?

Talk to you soon.

Get set...

Ugh, too many late nights has caught up to me and no vitamins and water  or positive thinking are gonna save me this time.  I have the aches and chills, you know of the flu variety.  My mom defenses let me down.  Double ugh.  It really is the worst.  I'm hoping I'll be better to ring in the New Year.  The biggest bummer is now I'm going to start out behind on my big New Years Challenge.  Will you forgive me if I start a couple of days late?

You are going to need a few things for this year long challenge, so its time to get set. Here's what you are going to need...

1.  Some way of exercising. It can be anything you want, or are already doing.  I'm going to be heading to the gym more, and doing some pilates at home.   You don't need to go out and spend money to exercise, I promise.  Getting outside is my favorite thing  and I  love love love  the 100 Pushup Challenge.  They also have a 200 situps and 200 squats challenge.  Crazy good and you'll be as tough as nails.  Hmmm, maybe I should do that one again.

2. Some resolutions.  This isn't going to be just about exercising, but being better. Being the person that you want to be.   Healthier, happier, nicer, more organized, whatever you want it to be about.    Mique at 30 Days has a great free printable to get you started!  Also check out Karen at Karina Ink for a great post on making your list.  I highly recommend getting a journal or a notebook so you can keep track of your journey this year.

3. Mostly,  resolve.  Time to stock up on some reserves.  Like I said this is going to be a year long thing, and if you don't have any resolve than its probably not going to work.  I'm planning on picking three things a month to work on.  One spiritual, one physical and one to help me be a better mom/wife/friend.   I'm hoping you'll join me so we can do it together.  Cuz whats better than having your friends help you along?

So what do you say?  Are you with me?!
{sorry if I'm not a very good motivator when i have the flu}

  Well of course I had to sweeten the deal!  Because I love you and like to give you bribes, uh I mean presents!

I've got ten 2 week passes to Golds Gym here in Kennewick.  So if you are local and want to get a good start on your fitness goals,  be one of the first ten people to email me at makingitmyown@gmail.com to snag yours!

I know,I know but I'm not leaving everyone else out.

Meet my friend Celeste.  She is one of my greatest friends and fitness guru extraordinaire.  Yes is a Boston Marathon qualifier , and is developing her own product, and is featured on running blogs, but she is also the best girl to have around.  Her laugh is fab, and I'm so happy to be working with her on this.  She is going to be doing some guest posts on fitness and helping us stay motivated.  {And if you are going to be pregnant, are pregnant,  or have been pregnant, than you definitely want to check out her blog, Due Fit.}  Celeste is giving away her CORE 4 Program.  And here she is to tell you exactly what that entails!

Hello everyone!  I'm Celeste and I'm thrilled that Jenn has asked me to be here and with you all over the next year.  And to start the new year off right, I'm going to give away  a free 6 week session for my new program - CORE 4 ($79 value)   It is for any woman who wants to reform their abs, while strengthening the pelvic floor muscles, low back and improve posture all at the same time.  Typically women who do the CORE 4 Program improve their waistline by 3-4" in just 6 weeks.

I've finally put this program together because I have found that most women (especially those that have given childbirth) tend to have several of the following: weak pelvic floor muscles which contributes to stress incontinence, low back pain, poor posture and the dreaded "Mommy Tummy" caused by either abdominal separation or stretched out transverse abs. I create custom programs with progressive transverse abdominal exercises that help pull the belly back in...which is why inches can be taken off the waist in 6 weeks.

The 6 week program includes:
CORE 4 Assesment Form (Clients fill this out before I design the 6 week program for them.  By Video instruction they measure the waistline and check for Diastasis Recti)
Videos for each exercise
Weekly Emails with new progressive exercises each week
CORE 4 Assesment Form
Expert Advice
Skype Session if needed
NO CRUNCHES!
NOT TIME CONSUMING!
**If the winner has Diastasis Recti (abdominal separation) They'll need to wear the splint ($35 VALUE) for 6 weeks.  This along with exercises helps bring the abs together fast! They will know after watching the video and filling out the assessment form)
This is the BEST thing a woman can do to take care of their body!  When the inner core is strong...the spine is aligned correctly, and it prevents a host of problems such as slipped discs, further abdominal separation, prolapsed uterus, sciatica, posture and neck pain...etc!

Ummm, who doesn't want that kind of help with their abs?

Celeste is  also offering all Making It My Own readers a discount on her CORE 4 program.  Sign up by January 15th and get a 10% discount.  Just mention me, her favorite friend Jenn! ; )

 + DETAILS +
To win you must be a follower of Making It My Own.  Then leave me a comment  about your New Years Resolutions.

You can also get an extra entry just leave some comment love for Celeste at Due Fit, just leave another comment telling me that you did.

And if you are down for my challenge, then leave one more comment telling me you are going to join me.
 +++
I would really love it if you did.  Join me that is. Whatever your goal is.  Pretty please?!
 {I'm pleading which according to Fancy Nancy is a nicer, fancier way of begging!}

oh, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I'm Famous! {a giveaway} CLOSED

A big shout out to Marcy {who I met at Project:Craft!} and became my 100th follower! You are going to thank her in a minute too.

Ok.   I'm not famous.  Not really.  At all.  But you guys are making me feel so great lately! Seriously.
Especially when I get to meet you in real life.

First let me apologize for being so absent lately.  Then I'll get to the good part.  I have been cleaning out.  Rearranging.  Re-evaluating.  I've even sat down to write out some meaningful type post about my feelings lately.  I'm not much of a writer though.  I decided its best to stick with whats easy to share for now.  So this space has taken a back seat.  Mostly because I don't have much in the way of craftiness to share.  Its hard to create something when you can't even see the craft room floor!  But I'm feeling good.  Slowly getting my mojo back.  Plus the sun is shining today.  It makes me happy!

So here's the fun part!  I've been saving this giveaway for when I hit 100 followers.  And because I'm feeling so loved by all the fabulous people here in the Tri Cities this one is for you!  {Unless of course you are willing to come visit  me for the prize, and its totally worth it.  But travel expenses aren't included} ;)

Darin wants to give one of you lucky peeps a photo session! For free! That is a $299 prize so whoever wins is super lucky! Isn't fall an awesome time to get your family photos done? Or are you feeling like pampering yourself and having your own beauty shoot done?!  {Its ok to do something for yourself every once in awhile!}  Its senior season too, so whatever you are needing/or wanting thats what you'll get! {excludes weddings}

Here is the nitty gritty.
+You need to leave me a comment telling me about your favorite photo you have seen lately.
+You will definitely get bonus points if you are a follower or become one.  So leave me a comment about that too.
+I'll even throw in a extra chance if you use your favorite form of social media to spread the word.  I know you are thinking it just gets more people to enter which lessens your chance.  But Lyssa won last time because she did. Just sayin.
+You HAVE to comment though.  Because a winner will be drawn FROM THE COMMENTS SECTION on Friday October 1st.

See I told you that you would thank Marcy too.  ;)

Winner!! and Garland Tutorial

 Ok, If you are new around here you will soon learn that when I say I'll be back tomorrow sometimes that means in a couple days!  After all that ignoring my family time spent getting ready for the She Market I had to take a little break.  We played and cleaned.  Yesterday I had full intentions of going to the mall and getting some new jeans, but instead we spent an hour trying on Halloween costumes and two hours reading books at Barnes and Noble.  It was the best kind of productive day.

But before we get to the tutorial we have some very important business to take care of!
The winners of a spool of baker's twine from

 are....
#63   Rach {el Paulsen!}

#93 Lyssa said...
I posted about this giveaway on FB!

 #115 Amber said...I love twine! I am a new follower.

Congrats ladies!  Email me your info {makingitmyown@gmail.com} and the color of twine you want so we can get it to you lickety split!

Alright.  Here's how I used my twine this week!

I had this fun garland hanging on my tent at She Market.  Super easy and pretty quick if you have an easy way to cut circles!

You are going to need a stack of felt circles about the size of a quarter, a stack of bigger circles {these are 2 1/2 inches} from your fabric of choice, hot glue, bakers twine and scissors.
Want to know a secret about me?  I am seriously bad at cutting.  If it wasn't for things like rotary cutters and my Big Shot I would not get very far in this crafting world.  So for this project I used my big shot and my nestable circle dies to cut out my circles.

To start out, take a fabric circle and fold it in half and then half again.

 Then glue that circle in the middle of a small felt circle {like the first picture}.  Then keep folding and gluing until it looks full.  I used five circles each.  You will soon realize that you need more fabric circles then you thought so cut some more and keep gluing.   Your gonna need a lot of these because it takes two for each pom pom.

 When your done folding and gluing and have cursed your hot glue gun for being so mean to you, lay one poof felt side up.  Lay the bakers twine color of your choice over the middle like in the picture above.   Then take another poof, add some more hot glue to the felt circle and glue it on top, sandwiching the string like the picture below.

Cute!

On this garland I spaced them apart 4 inches.  I started on one side and put two 2x2 squares next to each other then added another.  This gives you about 6 inches of garland.  On my white one I spaced them six inches apart.  So three pom poms was 24 inches of garland, just to give you an idea.  Just keep gluing, just keep gluing...

When you have your desired length: hang, stand back and smile.  Aren't they fun!

{I used white linen and aqua twine for this one, and for the colored one I used MM dinky dots in gray, Lotus in red from Amy Butler and yellow twine.}
And a side note to save you from hating your new garland...
If you are transporting this at all or putting it away, wrap it around a piece of cardboard to prevent it from getting tangled.  Because it will in about 2 seconds.
Have a great weekend!

Don't forget to use the code MAKEIT25 through Monday at The Twinery to get 25% off your order!  And become a fan of The Twinery on facebook to catch all of their fun deals and ideas!
